Social distancing at Student One: here’s all the things you can do without leaving the premises

We’ve always said Student One gives you everything you need without ever leaving, and with the current social distancing in place it is time to make the most of it.

Lucky for you there is a lot you can still do at Student One to keep you entertained and to continue to make the most out of your study experience.

At Student One it is still important to be practising social distancing. You can find more information and guidance on social distancing here. In participating in the following activities we recommend you follow the guidelines outlined by the government in the link above.

Have a movie marathon

Grab some snacks, hole up in your room and binge watch all of those movies and tv shows you’ve been meaning to catch up on. Alternatively, head to one of our common areas and watch on your laptop or on the big cinema screens.

Challenge your friends to a games tournament

Grab some friends and head to one of the games areas for your very own Student One games tournament. Remember hygiene is important during this time and using disinfectant wipes to clean the equipment between people and uses will help to keep everyone safe during this time.

Want to stay in your room? Hire a Playstation or Ipad from the Student One reception or grab your roomies and play traditional games there instead. Choose your activity of choice and go round robin, game on.

Hit the gym

Keeping fit and healthy should still be a priority. Looking after your body by keeping it active and filling it with good fuel is such a great way to keep yourself and your mental health in tip top shape.

Lucky for you we have fully equipped gyms in each of our Student One residences – just remember to practice good hygiene, take your towel and wipe down machines after you use them. Student One is providing disinfectant wipes in the gym for residents to use.

Gym numbers will be capped at five residents at a time, so please be respectful with your time.

Alternatively, you can hit up one of our suitable common areas or roll out a mat or towel in your room and do your own workout. There are a heap of free workouts online, including these seven Youtube workouts.

Make a splash in the pool

The weather is still warm and the Student One pool is open and waiting for you. Go for a dip and get some fresh air in the Wharf Street pool, it will be good for you.

Cook up a storm

Procasti-baking is a real thing that we fully support. Try out a new recipe or cook up some comfort food in your kitchen. Remember to be mindful when sharing this space with your fellow residents and clean the space when you’re finished.

Our shared barbecue and cooking facilities are now open from 7am – 8pm, however please bring your own utensils, plates, pots and pans until further notice.

Create a Student One spa

It is time for some R&R. Put on a chilled music playlist, have a shower, do some skincare, put on face and hair masks, sit back and relax.

It is easy to get caught up in all the bad news circulating from around the world, which can make us feel overwhelmed. Taking out some time for self care can help you feel back on track.

Catch up on your study

No excuses. It is easy to let your study get on top of you and to fall behind during a busy semester filled with distractions. Now is the time to get on top of all of your work and set yourself up for the rest of the semester. The Student One meeting and study spaces are now open, so take full advantage.

Just chill out

For a change of scenery head to the Adelaide Street common room on the ground floor, the Wharf Street indoor space on level 39 or the Elizabeth Street common room on the first floor, which are all open until 8.00pm. Numbers will be capped so please be respectful.

Read for pleasure

When you’re in the middle of your study, it can seem like you only ever read for educational purposes. Use your downtime to read something just for you, it can be a book, a magazine or a blog post.

Listen to a podcast
