Res Life Calendar Returns for 2020 with O-Week Action

Throwing snags and pancakes on the barbecue with the Red Frogs, winning prizes at the Student One Market Day, getting your zen on with sunset yoga or cuddling up with some of Australia’s cutest and scariest animals. Whatever your activity of choice, Student One’s fully packed res life calendar had its residents covered as they returned to university for O-Week this semester.

While our calendar of res life events runs year-round, semester one O-Week is always a main event.

The most popular activities of the week were the Student One Market Day and our sound-off sunset yoga, with both events happening at the Student One Aussie lifestyle hub, the Wharf Street residence.

As always, the Student One Market Day was wildly popular. Students got to know some of the awesome venues that are just around the corner from Student One including Downunder Bar, Strike Bowling, B & Lucky Sons, Good Life Gym and Fitness First Gym.

Playstation competition

Drink bottles, stubby holders, lollies, keep cups, Byron trips and vouchers were all up for grabs on the night. Dance battles, pool games, ping pong, spin the wheel to win and spicy chicken wing challenges offered up lots of opportunities to win.

Table tennis

We were joined by the Red Frogs, who of course supplied our residents with all of the red frog lollies they could ever want, which was washed down by the ultimate Aussie barbecue put on by our RA’s.

Next up, Brisbane put on a show as the sun set over the city highrises, and our students striked a yoga pose. The sound-off yoga event was run by Urban Bliss Yoga and helped students forget all about their back-to-uni stresses.

Rooftop yoga

While the main yoga event allowed our residents to switch off, focus on themselves and relax, the after party – full of snacks and chats – was where the Student One community really shined.

Chloe from Hong Kong said she likes attending the res life events because they are a relaxed way to meet new people, and Siena from Byron Bay said she loves that she can make new friends and be involved in fun activities without any pressure.

Residents can get involved in the res life activities by picking up a copy of the calendar at reception or joining the Student One closed Facebook group.
