For a late dinner, the Yiros shop on James Street in Fortitude Valley is open until 9pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Our favourite? The halloumi chips and pork belly yiros. If you’re sharing, get a plate of calamari or fish and chips.

Japanese-inspired Harajuku Gyoza is a student-friendly spot for casual dining and group dinners. If you’re still hungry after plates of grilled or poached gyoza, try their dessert gyoza – we recommend the Nutella.

Busy restaurantYakiniku Hachi is one of the newest residents of the Elizabeth Street Arcade. Think do-it-yourself charcoal grilling and a range of delicious sides. Open until 10pm this spot is popular, so you may need to line up for a table, but we can guarantee it will be well worth it.

If burger cravings come your way, there’s a healthy and fresh option just down the block from Student One. Grill’d in Wintergarden is open until 10pm on weekdays and 11pm on weekends, and the West End restaurant is open until midnight Friday and Saturday nights. Grill’d also has great vegetarian options and are famous for their thick-cut, seasoned fries.

Messina in South Bank took the number one spot in our countdown of Brisbane’s best ice-cream and gelato stores,and deservedly so, it is well deserving with its delicious gelato and rotating weekly specials. It’s open until 10.30pm Monday to Thursday, 11.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 10pm on Sunday.

Bubble TeaAnother Student One Elizabeth Street neighbour, LUCHA Kitchen + Bar is taking inspiration from trends in China and shaping them to Australian tastes. Open until midnight, their bubble teas and tea-infused cocktails are a must try and we won’t even start on all the tasty food they have on offer.

For yakitori (Japanese skewers)

Yakitori translates to ‘grilled bird’ so you’ll find many options for skewers, wings and side dishes. Try the Torikawa skewer, which has crispy chicken skin, and the Pirikawa spicy fries. Birds Nest has two locations nearby in West End and Fortitude Valley, both open until midnight for anyone seeking delicious yakitori and nibbles.

Fried rice, noodles and barbecued dishes are popular at Maru Korean BBQ. This place is open until midnight on Elizabeth Street so you can grab a teriyaki chicken cup with rice to enjoy before the end of your night. They have takeaway boxes too.

Funny Funny Korean in Burnett Lane has a large menu of tapas, fried rice, meats and noodles. Best known for their hot pots, you can choose from a range of spicy options that make for a great shared meal. They are open until 1.30am every day of the week.

Pochana is open until 1am Sunday to Thursday and 2am Friday and Saturday on Elizabeth Street, serving up live music, drinks and bite-size Thai food. Try the Massaman beef curry and grilled corn. You can also order from here on Deliveroo and Menu Log.

For dumplings and ramen

For Asian Fusion street food, Heya Bar is open from 5pm on Wednesday through Sunday and keeps cooking until 3am. Nestled under the ground level of Brunswick Street, Heya is a cozy, Japanese-inspired bar with dimly lit booths and pool tables. Duck and pork bone broth ramen is their signature dish. Pair that with some chicken and chive dumplings and you’ve got yourself a pretty satisfying late night meal.

Greaser Bar on Brunswick Street has a sweet selection of American-style snacks and if you’re lucky you’ll catch the end of a live music set. We recommend the buttermilk-fried chicken, chilli dogs and crinkle cut fries. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays but open Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday until midnight and until 3am Friday and Saturday.

Panda Brisbane has you sorted for your late night rice, noodle and fried chicken dishes. Try their Korean spicy chilli chicken for a kick. This restaurant is open on Elizabeth Street until 3.30am serving beer, wine and cocktails too.

New York Slice serves up delicious pizza slices in their Brunswick Street location until 3.30am Monday to Wednesday and 4.30am Thursday to Sunday, and their Lower Valley Mall location is open Friday and Saturday only serving up slices until 4.30am. Jimmy’s has been feeding the late night wanderers since 1982. They are open 24 hours and although their meals are on the pricier side, the lush fit-out and great service makes it worth it. There are different menus for the lower and upper deck of the restaurant, and there’s table service only on the lower level. Go here for burgers, salads and steaks.
