12 foods you need to try and eat at Eat Street Northshore

Eat Street Lights

Eat Street is home to over 70 food vendors, all showcasing cuisines from around the world. With seemingly never-ending options, choosing what to eat can feel overwhelming – especially when your brain is already fried from late night cramming sessions. Whether you’re craving sweet or savoury Eat Street has it all and we’ve done the hard work, and the taste testing to narrow it down for you. These options are certainly more exciting than heading back to yours to reheat that packet of instant noodles.

Savoury

These potato gurus are putting a twist on your classic potato chip by serving mouth-watering whole potatoes thinly sliced into the shape of a slinky. By keeping the menu small they are able to fully hero the potato with nothing but an armoury of salts to add a finishing touch (our favourites are the classic or chicken salts). As a crowd pleaser this is one of the quickest moving lines at Eat Street, making it the perfect place to start, plus they are vegan-friendly and gluten-free.

The Return of the Mack is not for the faint hearted and is slam packed with 18-hour braised beef, crispy bacon, red cheddar, mac ‘n’ cheese croquette, garlic aioli and hickory smoked BBQ sauce on a brioche bun. Is anyone else drooling?

Calamari Me offers up melt-in-your-mouth calamari that will have you coming back for seconds. Offering three flavours you can indulge in salt and pepper, crispy crumb or spicy chilli calamari. We love the spicy chilli calamari, which gives you the perfect chilli hit without burning off your taste buds. They also have gluten- and dairy-free options on request.

Yiros and Halloumi Fries at Ela Greeko

Ela Greeko serves up generous helpings of Greek favourites. With lamb, chicken, wagyu beef and halloumi yiros on offer, there are plenty of choices but make sure you get a side of their halloumi fries (which are gluten-free) for the perfect addition to your Greek feast. Added bonus – all their meat is halal certified.

Black Angus Brisket and Crispy Fried Chicken at Rogue Spice

Rogue Spice provides delectable savoury meals. We love the 18-hour black angus brisket, which is slow cooked to perfection. For those needing gluten-free fare, try out the crispy fried chicken that is perfectly complemented by the smoked sambal mayo.

Offering up fresh Australian fish, the Salty Sailor claim to have the best chips in the universe and we think they come pretty close. A top pick is the classic fish and chips combo but if you want to try a bit of everything go for the fisherman’s basket. All products can be made gluten- and dairy-free on request.

Sweet

Loaded Fries at The Doughnut Bar

The Doughnut Bar is where all your doughnut dreams will come true. While you can opt for a traditional doughnut we suggest trying out their doughnut fries, which come either plain or for those who want to indulge loaded. Their loaded options include toppings such as oreos, gelato or fudge. There is also a range of gluten-free doughnuts, which get our tick of approval.

Conuts at Chocolate Komberry Co.

As the inventor of the conut (ice cream filled doughnut cones), there is no better place to try them out. The cones are made of 64 layers of hand-rolled Danish pastry filled with soft gelato in classic Australian flavours such as Tim Tam and Golden Gaytime.

Funnel Cakes at Double Good

Double Good is famous for its heavily topped funnel cakes. So, what is a funnel cake? They are an artfully curated mix of doughnuts, waffles and churros, delectably topped in all things sweet. Choose from Ferrero Rocher, cookie dough, salted caramel, dark chocolate or Freddo Frog themed treats.

Ice Cream Tacos at The Byron Gelato

If the extensive range of gelato and sorbet doesn’t impress you, the ice cream tacos certainly will. Taco shells made from waffle cones, dipped in Cadbury chocolate and sprinkles filled to the brim with your favourite ice cream flavours and toppings. Delish!

Honey Puffs at Locomades

Locomades Honey Puff Bar is an Eat Street veteran and a must try. While we love the traditional honey puffs coated in honey, cinnamon and icing sugar for those with an extra sweet tooth you can opt to add sauce on top or take it even further with a honey puff sundae. Added bonus, these puffs of joy are dairy-free.

Fairy Floss at Professor Fairy Floss

Bring out your inner child with fairy floss that is bigger than your head. Offering 1m tall and mega cloud sized spun sugar along with fairy floss that literally lights up, it is one for the Instagram feed. Not sure you can make it through that much fairy floss in one night? Opt for a fairy floss bucket instead, they come in sizes up to 5 litres – that’s a lot of fairy floss.
