The Story Bridge is the longest cantilever bridge in Australia at a span length of 282 metres. Completed in 1940 to service the Brisbane city centre and the southern suburbs, the Story Bridge is a Brisbane icon. Its position standing above the Brisbane River is hard to miss especially at night when it is transformed into a fireworks stage during Riverfire or a lighting masterpiece during other times of the year.
The Story Bridge is one of two bridges in Australia that offer paying patrons the opportunity to climb across, though and over its steel structure. The other is the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Walk ways and bikes paths exist on both side of the Story Bridge so it is a great way to get to the southern side of the Brisbane River.
To reach the northern side of the Story Bridge from the Student One Residences, a walk along Adelaide Street and then turning right onto Boundary Street and again right into Ivory Lane will have you close by. Next you’ll need to climb up Ivory Lane, until you the Bridge level on your right hand side.
